Where can I find information on the public showing of films and the copyright laws surrounding it?

A group of friends and I want to start a film appreciation society at our university and want to use the universities facilities to show these films. The films will be any film we deem a "classic" but we are worried that we might be violating some or other copyright law. We aren't going to be making money off of this but we still want to be on the safe side. Anyone know where I can find the relevant information? Oh, and we are from South Africa, so the relevant laws would only be of the international persuasion.Where can I find information on the public showing of films and the copyright laws surrounding it?You can get around copyright laws by not making copies of the film and selling it.
