Where can I find information about checking myself into a mental hospital?

I am considering checking myself into a mental institution and I would like to find some sort of resource about what that entails. Something official or professional would be best.

Information specifically applying to young adults (late teens/early 20s) would also be helpful.Where can I find information about checking myself into a mental hospital?Do a google search and find any mental hospitals in your area, then go to their website to get info about admittance..... You will need good insurance that covers mental health because they are VERY expensive and probably also a psychiatrist to admit you.... you can't really just walk in. If you are in an immediate crisis (going to commit suicide) then you can go to the ER and they will keep you at that hospital for 72 hours..........Where can I find information about checking myself into a mental hospital? You cannot check yourself into a mental hospital off the street, you have to have a referral by your psychiatrist or doctor. Then they have to work out where you funding is coming from, either NHS of private, and if it's private that means that your parents insurance will have to pay.

I'm 16 and have been to two mental hospitals, both private and NHS. If you are 18 years old or under you would have to go into the adolescent units. If you are older, you go with the adults.

I went to The Priory Southampton and Leigh House in Winchester. Going into an NHS hospital depends on where you live and where there is a bed available, as most hospitals are sadly oversubscribed. Some other private hospitals apart from The Priory Group (http://www.priorygroup.com/) are Alpha Hospitals and The Huntercombe Group:

I hope I have helped :)Where can I find information about checking myself into a mental hospital? It would be helpful to know where you live. You can try doing a Google search on Mental Health Hospitals or you can call some of the well known hospitals in your area for recommendation. Perhaps your doctor can make a recommendation as well. Good Luck.
